TODAY’S “GOOD NEWS” – July 18, 2004

MESSAGE:  “TAKE A BREAK:

…Renew Your Focus!”

SCRIPTURE:  Mark 6:30-32

KEY VERSE:  v. 31  “And Jesus said to them, ‘Come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest a while.’”

FOCUS:  The call to “rest” is a provision of a loving God.

INTRODUCTION:  “I never cease to be amazed at the incredible paradox of seeing so many unhappy people in a world that has so much to offer.  What surprises me even more is the sight of so many Christians who have succumbed to busyness, unhappiness, tightness and boredom.  Many suffer from a nagging sense of guilt that no matter how much they do, it is never quite enough.”                ~ Tim Hansel  (When I Relax I Feel Guilty)

I. MEANINGFUL ACTIVITY IS NOT IMMUNE TO WEARINESS

II.   GOD CALLS HIS PEOPLE TO GET AWAY AND RELAX

III.  RENEWAL REFRESHES US FOR NEW SERVICE

IV.  A SPECIAL “REST” IS READY FOR GOD’S CHILD

CONCLUSION:  “The word ‘privately,’ does not describe their going away, that is, in a private manner, but speaks of the privacy of the uninhabited region.”                   ~ Kenneth S. Wuest, (Wuest Word Studies)

PREACHING:  Pastor Holland Lewis
